A thousand sunsets, a thousand memories, a thousand heartbeats, colours of blue red & gold streaking the sky ... this is Santorini island ... Poets have written about it, artists attempt to capture its beauty. Nothing can quite describe ... the unsurpassed magic of Santorini. This tiny Greek island in the Aegean Sea, rich in history & steeped in myth, is situated on the southern east tip of the Cyclades Cluster. Rocky steep terrain on the caldera side (west coast), volcanic rock, pumices stone, unusual rock formations. Other areas have a gentler terrain. Climate is moist, warm summers with cool evenings. August has the famous 'Meltemia' winds. There is a sparse rainfall during the winter months. Cave Houses (dug into the volcanic rock), neo classical mansions, cobbled streets and winding paths, domed churches (many with a blue dome), and most houses have a dome at some part of the roof structure. Fira town is the capital on the famous Santorini caldera. Just above Fira, on the hill, is Firostefani. The name implies 'The Crown of Fira'. Fira is famous for the Volcano Views & Sunsets, the Cable Car,cafes, restaurants, clubs, cafes & nightlife, museums, gold shops and the main shopping area. |
